6th Avenue Pedestrian Path Feasibility Study

The 6th Avenue Pedestrian Path Feasibility Study will look at the opportunities to improve pedestrian access between Gadsden Street and Monroe Street in the midtown area along 6th Avenue. The range of enhancements could include, but not be limited to, the widening of the existing sidewalks; the introduction of sidewalks on both north and south sides of 6th Avenue; the introduction of lighting consistent with the Midtown Area Plan; the inclusion of a “plateau” at the intersection of 6th and Thomasville Road; or suggestions received from citizens along the project timeline.

Work on the project to date includes data collection and preliminary conceptual development that will be presented at a public workshop in June 2012. The improvements made along the corridor will be directly tied to available funding limits that have been established for the project and consistent with the Midtown Action Plan that was adopted in March of 2011.

Additional phases for the project include design, right-of-way (if necessary), and construction. The funds for additional phases are in FY 2012/2013, 2013/2014, and 2015/2016, respectively in the amounts of $165,000, $550,000, and $600,000.

The CRTPA is committed to working with the City of Tallahassee and the Tallahassee-Leon County Planning Department and all of its transportation partners to improve pedestrian activity and the transportation system as a whole in the entire CRTPA region. The CRTPA approved the 6th Avenue concept at the June 25, 2012 meeting. The concept was provided to the City of Tallahassee with an approval to move forward with design at the December 5, 2012 Tallahassee City Commission meeting.
